Japandi - Living Room Edit

When Japanese minimalism meets Scandanavian functionality and simplicity, you get Japandi 🤝.

Some of the most popular furniture and decor styles right now that we’re seeing are rooted in this aesthetic. Light and neutral palette, curvy soft silhouettes, earthy natural textures and minimal decor.

Let me show you how to get this look for less.

Pulling inspiration from nature, Japandi style provides soft edges and natural textures. It gives an effortless elevated cozy vibe while simultaneously appeasing your inner minimalist.

Using this inspiration photo from Pinterest of a Japandi style living space and without knowing the exact furniture selections, we found pieces similar to what’s in the photo at a mid-point price range. You could achieve the furniture and accessory elements in this space for somewhere under 10K.

With budget in mind, we found pieces at a lower price point which alligned with the aesthetic of the space to give you the look and feel for much less! This budget friendly option will get you this space for around $3k CAD (excluding taxes).

I’ve linked everything below for both price point options. There is so much out there it really just depends on your desired budget, existing furniture and space that you’re working with.

ADDITIONAL TIPS:
1. You can always achieve a Japandi feel by just introducing elements of the style into your space. Of course, you want to make sure that your existing furniture compliments the Japandi style, but use these inspiration images and products as a starting point. Do the existing colours in your space compliment the Japandi style? Maybe just investing in one new furniture piece, such as an accent chair, will help build up this look in your space. If you need help, get in touch with me!

2. Buying locally either thrifted (think Value Village or Mission Mart for vintage books, crystal vase etc) or from the likes of Homesense/Winners/Marshall’s for bigger furniture pieces will likely get you higher quality product at a lower price. Plus, you can touch and feel in person. Hot Tip: Homesense usually has great faux floor plants for excellent prices.

3. As mentioned, there are way more furniture and decor styles playing into this theme available locally and online. Using these keywords in your online search should help:

Japandi, curvy furniture, curvy couches, curvy accent chairs, boucle accent chair, boucle couch, neutral round area rug, round table

4. Don’t be afraid to buy furniture pieces from Wayfair and Amazon but be sure to read the reviews. Also know that the quality from the websites is not going to be as high as from other retailers. And, with large furniture, almost certainly assume that if it’s too cheap then it’s too good to be true!

5. Mix some items from each board/price together to work with your budget! Buy some high and some low prices pieces. There is no wrong approach here.

***Disclaimer: I have not personally bought any of this furniture so cannot speak directly to the quality. Buy at your own risk!
